Afro-Colombians

Even though there is a big number of Afro-Colombians in Barranquilla, you won't commonly see them around. They tend to be together as a community and there are just a few of them that live separately. The majority of Afro-Colombians live in little towns near to Barranquilla, Cartagena or Santa Marta, the big cities of the Costa Caribe. The conditions in those towns are usually not as good as it should be. Not all of them have basic needs a family or a house requieres, by basic needs I mean water, electric lightning, roads, etc.

The level of scholarship of Afro-Colombians is usually very law, a few of them have the conditions to send their kind to school and the amount of people that gets to go to a University is even lower. I think the government should be more aware of the situation of the Afro-Colombians and should set up some public schools so that it is easier for them to go and get a good education. Without an education it is very difficult to find a good job and that way to having better life conditions will be very hard.

The towns where Afro-Colombians founded their homes don't have a kind of hospital and that is also a big problem. If they get sick or if there is an illness in some town, the probabilities for them to get better will be low because they don't have any place to visit where they could get an specialized observation of what they have. In orden to become it they should go to the nearest big city and visit one hospital there but if they don't count with an assurance they will hardly be atended. For that it is important for everybody to be consience of what is happening to our people, and it is important to support foundations that look for their wealth so that Afro-Colombians who live in little towns can get to live under better conditions.
